I read the last post and found the little teeny tiny upside down ^ at the right. When clicking it does give the options.

I agree this is a step back.

I like to use textpad to open textfiles and photoshop to open jpg files. Now the option 'open with' seems to have been removed in Vista. No doubt I am going to find a great many retrograde feature in this huge bling bling system. One great step forward for Microsoft - one great step backwards for the rest of mankind .....

[...] Vista’s “Open With” Dialog a MAJOR step back! I agree with this poster, having to go search for apps is stupid, though once you choose one, the bottom part of the window fills with other options that you obviously don't need. (tags: Features) [...]

@exabyte
"tif you will see all that handle tif"
You think that mediaplayer can handle tif files?

The other programs list is a standard list of all the programs available in your system, at least the standard windows programs are included

sorry, what a silly example. for a tif you will see all that handle tif, for html the same .. and you expect hundreds of apps to open a vmx file ... bad bad example, which proves NOTHING.

My computing involves a lot of video reviewing. I like to use different players for different video formats...sometimes for the same video for benchmarking purposes.

I use the 'Open With' context menu a lot and it is one of the things that has bugged me most about Vista. Yes, as you choose different apps you get more choices, and the Browse feature works to an extent, but why do the icons need to be so big?!

I use a 1600x1050 resolution and don't need big-ass icons in my non-customizeable windows and changes to things that worked great before the need to make them fancy and pretty.
