Drivers Nightmare with Windows Vista

My initial experiences with Windows Vista were mixed. My Vista experience has gone down since! First of all hardware support in Windows Vista is very poor indeed! I installed Windows Vista Ultimate (32 bit) on a computer using the Intel D865GBF Motherboard. The Motherboard features builtin graphics and sound cards. Now, when I installed Vista it failed to recognize my sound card. The drivers available from the Intel CD don't work on Vista, and Intel doesn't even provide new audio drivers for Vista! So I'm stuck. No wonder it was claimed that you require new hardware for Windows Vista, because the old one is just not supported any more!

Windows Vista is a step back! I remember when Windows XP was released, it supported all hardware at that time, and I remember that I tested Windows XP on a Gigabyte motherboard running on the AMD K6-2 processor, and I was amazed and thought that Windows XP pushed back Linux Desktop penetration for a few years. With Vista I think it makes the case for a Linux migration even stronger! After all who will expend his resources on buying new hardware for an OS which actually doesn't feature any real innovation or any productivity enhancements, as I see it so far Vista is all eye-candy!

I cant even begin to descibe what a nightmare vista has been for my software. As an Engineer i rely on very, very specifc software to achieve an industry standard. It is suffice if to say that when i migrated to vista, my carrer was…. That being said i have now decided to buy a mac.

And my son, who decided to install some drivers for his sony handycam, sent my vista machine into an infinte loop, unable to recover…

I bought a new machine with Vista Ultimate and most things settled down quickly. But I’m now finding new hardware is unsupported, the latest being a Firewire connected Freecom Datatank. There is no scheduled date for Vista driver availability. And the same for my new Siemens USB DECT Skype adapter. Is driver availabily going to pick up or are manufactures, effectively, boycotting MS?

JohnD, my endless startup loop I encountered was fixed by Vista Repair run from an upgrade CD.

I’d rather smear feces all over myself than run Vista…

Don’t worry…you are not stuck…I have the same motherboard and I also found it a little difficult to get sound going…but as it turned out you don’t need any new Vista drivers, the old ones work fine…

I don’t remember the exact steps but when Vista said it found new hardware, then it asked whether it should look for drivers, I selected ‘don’t search online’ or something, then it asked to insert a disc, and it would search it for drivers…I inserted the Intel CD and it found and installed SoundMAX successfully…

You folks need to calm down. It isnt Microsofts Job to add drivers for every 3rd party device. I have Vista and find it does a pretty good job most the time and devices that arent supported are generally no suprise – like cheap and nasty taiwanese onboard sound chips. If you have old kit – just stick with XP and stop moaning like the world owes you a living its really dull.

Oh by the way, noneofyour, you need to wipe it somewhere because you’re full of it.
